February 2010                                          The Archives

In all and despite the terrible weather, which made travelling to Fen Bank somewhat of an adventure, seven lucky dogs went to wonderful new homes in January including two who hardly touched the sides!! And Jenny as usual worked her special magic in matching exactly the right dog to the right  family.

Not only that, but in homing Caspar she also managed to catch a lovely young lurcher  girl who was straying and on scanning her found a microchip that exactly corresponded to one of a dog lost since October and managed to contact the owners who couldn’t believe that she had been found after 4 months. Jenny said it was her best day ever at Fen Bank to find a needy dog and reunite it with its rightful owners and in the same day re-home one of our most loved and unlucky  dogs who came back to kennels because his owner who totally transformed him into a confident, cat loving greyhound, has cancer and is facing a serious operation. Steve did a fabulous job in rehabilitating Casper and Victoria and John generously fostered him with their dog Bouncer, until we could find him what Jenny expects to be his forever home - at last.

Shortly before all this, a lady rang in some desperation as she had been given a puppy for Christmas and it wasn’t coping well in the family situation - so in she came - 16 weeks worth of adorable white and brindle fur with the sweetest temperament - and settled in with Hero and Billy and Jenny’s little terrier Sadie with whom she plays like a demon! She will need a home in due course if we can wrest her away from Jenny’s husband, who is firmly under her paws - except when she has an accident of the odorous kind overnight! Ideally she needs a companion to play with and someone who is home all day and able to cope with a lively but very loving puppy! In greyhound puppy terms she is a very good girl - but all puppies have their moments!

The electricians found this out when they were rewiring the house (yes, we had to have it done). They positively enjoyed the upper floor - but when it came to the kitchen and the office they had to wade through dogs and two tool thieves of whom the artful dodger would have been proud! They also learned to stand on one leg whilst the other was being nibbled - or more daringly , screw and drill into walls with a totally oblivious greyhound between their legs! However they did it and did it all very well- and we shall pass all official inspections.

The new kennel is still not finished - we await the return of the men putting the gates and fencing runs  up  and the builders have yet to do the beds and although all the electrics are finished the fitting out of the shower room/grooming area has yet to be completed. Some of the walls have been painted by Jenny and her team, but the floor can’t be done until all the other work is finished and the building has had time to dry out a bit- fat chance in this weather!!! Watch this space……………….
